The New Bug in Town

Entertaining!

Suspenseful!

Life was comfortable in Larvadale…until the new bug moved to town.

The New Bug in Town illustrates the danger in judging others by their appearances and encourages children to welcome each other’s differences while they learn something new about the insect world.

The velvet ant, also known by her scientific name Dasymutilla occidentalis, inhabits the United States as far west as Texas. She is most commonly seen in clover fields, meadows, and forest edges. She may even be in your own back yard!

Although Tozer fans are familiar with his writings and sermons, now for the first time, Approaching the Almighty collects the prayers that Tozer offered as he stepped into the pulpit to preach. Phil Shappard, a Moody Radio manager whose job was to remaster the audiotapes of Tozer’s sermons, has collected and transcribed almost two hundred prayers that reveal the great preacher’s intimate walk with God.

The path to a rich prayer life is to pray alongside others whose faith is deep. Let Tozer’s pulpit prayers guide your own heart in its steadfast pursuit of God.

Can You Hear Me?

Can good things really come from bad things?
Why does God allow bad things to happen?
Will Daddy still be able to hear me from Heaven?

These are just some of the questions Renee starts thinking about after she finds out that her daddy has cancer. She feels very sad and struggles to understand why this is happening. He hasn’t even been her daddy for that long – there’s still so much they haven’t done yet! All she can think to do is pray and ask God to make her daddy better. But when she realizes he isn’t, she begins to wonder what God’s plan is, and whether God can hear her prayers at all. She documents all the things that are happening in her diary as she watches her daddy go through the stages of cancer. Through this painful experience, she learns about the meaning of faith and how she can stay connected to her beloved father after he is gone.

There are also discussion questions at the end for readers to share in small groups or as a guide for self-reflection and journaling. It can be used for grief support groups for those who have lost someone to cancer or terminal illness.

It’s A Wonderful Life

It’s A Wonderful Life (link is for the 75th Anniversary book) is my favorite Christmas movie. I watch it almost every year on Christmas Eve as I wrap presents. (I’m a bit of a procrastinator.) The movie wasn’t initially meant to be a Christmas movie. It wasn’t even very well received when it was released in January of 1947. Over time, though, it’s become a favorite to many people of all ages. It’s a Wonderful Life is the number 1 movie on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Cheers list!

Identity Unveiled, Daughter of the King of Kings, Reflections on God’s Grace by Shirene H. Gentry

I absolutely loved Shirene’s story of self-discovery and how she was able to draw strength from our Heavenly Father. The discovery and recounting of her past were so intriguing and so unique I found myself wanting to know more. It was a page-turner; wonderfully written from the heart. A true lifelong journey that I feel blessed to have been witness to through her writing. God has a purpose for each one of us and that is our true identity.
